Understanding the Love Polygon and Romances of "Next Stop: Happiness"

Image
Next Stop: Happiness was a complex series, sometimes I can't even get over why Addie's character Mu Cheng keeps hiding the truth from her illegitimate son who is years later, reunited with his father. On the other hand, the show itself has one long complex maze of relationships which can be seen in these situations. The main couple is lawyer Ren Guangxi and the bento girl Liang Mucheng.  But this attraction is not without its few complications.  In the beginning, we get to understand Liang Mucheng has attracted the attention of Guangxi the arrogant law student, Tuoye her childhood friend who likes her so much and not to mention her foster father/uncle by marriage who was a pedophile.  As you see, Mucheng was living with her stepmother/auntie (her mom's sister) who married her uncle by marriage after her biological father died.  It was a complex relationship to where her uncle by marriage had developed a nominal incestuous lust after her, resulting to her frequent ...

Guang Xi and Mu Cheng in "Next Stop Happiness"

After doing a review on "Next Stop Happiness" I think I should do a more close-up focus on Guang Xi and Mu Cheng.  For me, the relationship is one of the most stormy and unexpected ones, yet with a happy ending after all the tears the series produced in the eyes of the viewers.  So it all starts where Guang Xi was the arrogant law student because he's rich and for Mu Cheng, a poor woman with determination in life to get out of her misery.  As a Bento girl, she just wants a happy life, not aspiring to be Cinderella yet meeting the most unexpected Prince Charming in her life- Guang Xi!  So she doesn't expect to fall for Guang Xi, but Guang Xi fell for her and she was just about to become one of his many girls to fool around and dump.  Yet her kindness and gentleness managed to conquer Guang Xi especially when she played the piece "Air on G String" to which, Guang Xi in return saw the error of his ways and fell for Mu Cheng while she had a lover Tuo Ye who she...

Drama Review: Next Stop Happiness

Just a lot of tears, yes a lot of tears with this one and perhaps Vanness Wu's first really teary eyed drama.  I also had my like for Ady An's part as the leading lady.  The story is about Guang Xi (Vanness Wu) and Mu Cheng (Ady An) which ties into two different worlds.  So Guang Xi's a pretty cocky law student because he's from a rich family and his mom (Bernice Liu) is the head of the school.  So his mom is pretty annoying for a lot of scenes but later, we can see she's not all so mean compared to most of the mothers-in-law in typical Chinese dramas oft he past.  I had my thought also on the Guang Xi/Tuo Ye (Chris Wu) and Mu Cheng was also really a tearjerker since Tuo Ye is very in love with Mu Cheng yet for the latter, she has been too attached to the guy who she never thought she would love.  And fortunately Ady An's part here isn't like her part in Yun Niang so not too many tears happen. It's not exactly a very typical love story since I thought...
