How Jan Di Really Nearly Ruined My Experience With K-Drama For Life

Image
If there's any nightmare that goes beyond the end of Halloween - it's how I can still remember how Boys Over Flowers gave me those bad vibes over K-Drama . If there was anyone who I wanted to dub the "Kris Aquino of South Korea" - it was Goo Hye Sun. Although Goo Hye Sun isn't a wreck of a woman - I still feel that she just can't escape the shadow of her bad acting . Heck, Goo Hye Sun was later part of the Korean drama Blood where her performance was a blot. It reminds me of how actresses Kaya Hirasawa and Jennifer Yen both played their respective parts in Kyukyu Sentai GoGoFive and Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue TERRIBLY. That's why I couldn't even shed a tear when Denus gave her life for Zylpheeza or when Queen Bansheera absorbed Vypra into her. Both actresses were just not what was needed for their shows.  My first exposure to Asianovela to greater degrees, was no doubt, Meteor Garden . I wasn't too intrigued with The Amazing Twins . What's Wrong with Pinoy Drama Compared to Chinese, Japanese and Korean Drama?

Image
With the ongoing proposal to ban Koreanovelas and the like from the Philippines and protect Pinoy garbage, one might really consider what's wrong with Pinoy Drama.  Here are some that I can name and what I can learn as I progress and learn from my mistakes as well: 1.) The protagonists tend to encourage rebellion and the idea that the poor are always oppressed and worth pitying even if it's not always true.  On the other hand, you might see in the Chinese, Japanese and Korean drama that though they may be blinded by revenge or rebellion at first, they do see through their mistakes and start to become better persons. 2.) The antagonists on the other hand seem to be very trim and proper, always rich and are always pictured with the misconception that wealth is evil (by the Pinoy leftists).  I was thinking that many of the protagonists are always pictured to be dignified villains all the time rather than a mix of different protagonists. 3.) Over-extension of the story...

Quality Acting in TV Drama: Why It Matters A Lot

Image
Well this is a broad topic but I thought I was inspired to write this entry from this entry by Fantasy Leader on why Tokusatsu acting matters .  Just my thought- it SHOULD also matter in TV Drama as well not only to Oriental drama but to all sorts regardless of country.  Like it or not, TV Drama requires a lot of emotions. I'll just use some examples relevant to this blog and plus, I may soon update this blog a lot more: While I was watching Romance in the Rain, I really had my rather bland review on Leo Ku's performance as Shuhuan.  While I am a huge fan of his singing but I'll just say, he wasn't my type to be Shuhuan.  Buckets of tears type drama need strong performers if you ask me.  Average acting isn't annoying but it doesn't make anything memorable.  In fact, I felt like I wanted to face palm at times whenever Leo Ku needed to display a lot of emotions but wasn't able to pull it off.  In Kamen Rider, some the seasons I thought had weaker ac...
