Westside Story VS. Outsiders

Image
Image Source I was thinking about two shows with some similarities namely Westside Story and The Outsiders . I think of Ady An who is eight years older than Esther Liu. Esther was still a teenager by then so I wonder how did she even finish school? Also, wouldn't she be JAIL BAIT that time? I remembered the joke of calling Mana as jailbait in Kamen Rider Agito considering I was still in high school when it first aired. Think about it - Westside Story aired in 2003, The Outsiders aired in 2004, and both actresses starred in Chinese Paladin in 2005! Then, I heard that Esther got a more demoted role due to her age (which I think was appropriate) since Ady had more acting experience. Ady was more professional by then to play such a tough character. I watched both shows dubbed in Tagalog. What amazed me were the roles played by both girls. Ady is pretty much a Dawson casting (she was 24 at that time) because she was an adult but her role was that of a 17-year-old. Esther, on the ...

I've Just Finished Watching The Outsiders

Image
It was last 2004 when the Outsiders showed up -- the very year of Dekaranger! That means it was 15 years already since it aired and much has happened such as Ady An's marriage, Blue Lan's marriage and any information of Dylan Guo? Well, I finally finished the TV drama and thought about the real-life lesson the story has is namely violence begets violence. The very death of two protagonists namely Hong Dou and Yu Hao should be a discouragement on joining gang violence. The show also showed the cowardice of gang members. A-Pao (Angus Hsieh) shows he's not really man enough for a real fight. Hong Dou's death at the hands of his gang is something. A-Pao claims to be so manly but he's nothing more than a coward. Just think of how often he's rarely seen without his goons. He would later beat a DEFENSELESS Hong Dou to her death. A side lesson from the incident is that Xun Qi realizes it's too late. I really felt so bad for Xun Qi crying for the deaths of both ...

I'm Now Rewatching The Outsiders Taiwanese TV Series

Image
I remembered watching The Outsiders on ABC-5 before it became TV-5. I remembered it was a late night program and didn't get to finish it because of college classes that started at 7:30 A.M. -- I had to get enough sleep or risk losing lots of stuff! So I did watch it but never got to finish it. Then I thought Netflix does something by bringing in some 2000s series that I haven't finished together with some new school. I currently put Ashes of Love on a halt to watch some old school Taiwanese TV series. Sometimes, when bored with what's new then why not temporarily watch old school? I did that with Super Sentai (and right now, I'm watching more new school Super Sentai until I get bored) then I might as well watch some old school TV drama then check new ones out later. There's still Vagabond later this year so maybe, I just need to watch some old school in order to to avoid getting taste fatigue with new school drama.  So far, Outsiders has been what I'd...
