My Selective Plot VS. Pretty Journey With East Asian Dramas

Image
Previously, I wrote about Plot vs. Pretty . There are no questions asked that I tend to watch a show "just for the girl," such as The Female General and currently Everyone Loves Me (ongoing). I can't deny that I watched Blossoming Love because Sun Zhenni (who I first saw as a secondary character in Till the End of the Moon as a gumiho) was just super pretty. I thought about watching legal dramas, whether they're from China, Taiwan, Japan, or South Korea. South Korean legal dramas tend to be one of my favorite things to watch, even if eye candy is NON-EXISTENT FOR ME . Sure, I can get drawn by the eye candy, but a good plot automatically covers every appearance. Recalling the early phase in my college days I remember the premiere of Chinovelas (mostly from Taiwan), and it started with Meteor Garden . I didn't find the late Barbie Xu all that pretty (but I used to like a girl who resembled her) compared to Mao Inoue. However, I found Meteor Garden (2001) better t...

K-Drama Seemingly Refuses To Give Me A Break From Toei's Toku Genres?

Image
There are times when I feel watching some older stuff I haven't checked out -- can be better. It's because I usually prefer watching shows at their own pace. Currently, I'm watching Tale of the Nine-Tailed Fox -- a K-Drama that aired during the Legacy Virus outbreak. I confess I'm more into K-Drama over Super Sentai and Kamen Rider these days. It's already noticeable that I haven't been writing episode reviews. However, as I was watching Tale of the Nine-Tailed Fox -- I couldn't help but make fun of it. It's because Lee Dong Guk looks like Katsumi Hyodo and Jo Bo Ah looks like Kazusa Okuyama (but she hasn't married yet). What came into my mind watching it? The romantic interactions between Lee Yeon and Yi Ah Eum were something Canalo from Kishinryu Sentai Ryusoulger could dream of. Yes, that hilarious scene where Canalo tried to court Tsukasa Myojin of Kaito Sentai Lupinranger vs. Keisatsu Sentai Lupinranger  -- only for it to become an epic fail!  I...

Am I Feeling Crazy Right Now With My Preferences With Taiwanese, Japanese And South Korean Entertainment?

Image
Just right now, I feel like I want to go haywire like Dr. Kuroto Dan and Dr. Mikoto Nakadai. I'm stuck in a game of juggling between preferences. Whether it'd be within the realm of Tokusatsu (since I prefer mostly new school Kamen Rider and mostly old school Super Sentai) or with other passions. That's why I never call myself a die-hard fan of just anything. I can't forget how I had a taste fatigue with Super Sentai last 2013 yet I find myself watching new school Super Sentai this 2016 and I'm looking forward to Kyuranger this 2017 and to Zyuohger's finale on the first Sunday of February.  I can't forget how there were a few times that I wasn't watching Tokusatsu earlier last decade. It was because I got caught with what I consider as "better stuff" like some Taiwanese, Japanese or Korean drama. Taiwanese drama helped me get in touch with my ancestral roots though I speak very little Chinese. Korean drama gave me a different cultural i...
