How Jan Di Really Nearly Ruined My Experience With K-Drama For Life

Image
If there's any nightmare that goes beyond the end of Halloween - it's how I can still remember how Boys Over Flowers gave me those bad vibes over K-Drama . If there was anyone who I wanted to dub the "Kris Aquino of South Korea" - it was Goo Hye Sun. Although Goo Hye Sun isn't a wreck of a woman - I still feel that she just can't escape the shadow of her bad acting . Heck, Goo Hye Sun was later part of the Korean drama Blood where her performance was a blot. It reminds me of how actresses Kaya Hirasawa and Jennifer Yen both played their respective parts in Kyukyu Sentai GoGoFive and Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue TERRIBLY. That's why I couldn't even shed a tear when Denus gave her life for Zylpheeza or when Queen Bansheera absorbed Vypra into her. Both actresses were just not what was needed for their shows.  My first exposure to Asianovela to greater degrees, was no doubt, Meteor Garden . I wasn't too intrigued with The Amazing Twins . I even hav...

Seven Reasons Why I Also Enjoy Korean Legal Dramas

Image
I remembered one time when I wasn't exactly too keen on K-Drama. Well, maybe except for that one stupid moment in my college life when I secretly wanted to marry Kim Tae Hee (who was five years older than me) for her beauty . Though that crush wasn't as open as other crazy fanboy moments. I decided to try and do a bit of a throwback post to write why I even watched Korean legal dramas. Some of them have sci-fi elements (not much of my type) while others are rooted in realism. These are the types where I'd treat it like reading a good book for a college book report. What made me like them?  No eye candy is needed - it's all about the plot and acting! I was watching Pride and Prejudice to get this noticed. Sure, my first immersion into it was either Love Story in Harvard (and that's when I wanted to marry the lead actress) and got more into it with Kill It . However, Pride and Prejudice doesn't contain much eye candy for the men (Baek Jin Hee isn't pretty) and...

How 'Boys Over Flowers' Nearly Made Me Stop Watching K-Drama

Image
I do admit that I'd watch Korean adaptations of Japanese shows (or better said, localizations because they go from one country to another rather than from one medium to another) - I do still feel the need to talk about this "abomination". If you did like it then chill. But for me - I still feel Boys Over Flowers is perhaps one of the biggest blots ever in K-Drama. The problem doesn't have to do with anything that it's an adaptation. The problem has to do with how the cast is weak in several levels of stupid for me. I always had an issue with how the show runs its own version of the Hana Yori Dango characters. Maybe, I'm just too used to how well Jerry Yan acts out as Tsukasa Doumyoji. Lee Min Ho is fine but I think the show just has bad writing. Kyu Hye Sun really makes a very bad Tsukushi Makino. Maybe, I'm just too used to Mao Inoue's cuteness OR Barbie Xu-Wang made an incredibly convincing Tsukushi! Need I mention how Jun Pyo's mother is so b...
