Choi Jin Hyuk Made Me Wish He'd Be In A Korean "Beauty And The Beast" Type K-Drama (With A Happy Ending)

Image
Just rewatching a couple of K-Dramas and I never realized that I've first seen action star Choi Jin Hyuk as Wol Ryung in Gu Family Book . Unlike the main character, he's a pure-bred Gumiho who fell in love with a human woman resulting in the Nagare Bouma child known as Kang Chi. I always felt the tears of Wol Ryung and Seo Hwa's sad love story. It was tragic in the beginning and ended tragically near the finale of Gu Family Book . I didn't realize that Wol Ryung had taken "other forms" when the actor Jin Hyuk appeared as the main protagonist of OCN drama Justice and Rugal . Then I decided it'd be cool if he actually gets to play in a Korean version of Beauty and the Beast but give it a happy ending!  I wasn't exactly the biggest fan of Ron Perlman's and Linda Hamilton's Beauty and the Beast from 1987. I thought about possible ladies to play as the Beauty to Jin Hyuk's Beast. I rewatched Gu Family Book (some episodes) and thought the actres...

Lee Seung Gi In Tragic Versions Of "Beauty And The Beast"

Image
It's time for a bit of throwback of K-Drama legend Lee Seung Gi. Although the first time I saw him was just the generic bum in Shining Inheritance and would later go to jail (again) in My Girlfriend is a Gumiho (which makes you wonder what's up with jailing him since he also went to jail in Vagabond ) - he did end up in action roles later. I wonder did he have not much experience back in Shining Inheritance when he punched actor Baek Sung Hyun who probably had complied with mandatory military training back then? Two action roles landed him into the supernatural world of Gu Family Book which was obviously based on the Japanese Inuyasha and  Journey to the West inspired  The Korean Odyssey . Both stories had the supernatural romance and tragedy told. Gu Family Book had Lee Seung Gi act as Kang Chi - a man born half-Gumiho and half-human. In Japanese, he would be a Hanyo or a Nagare Bouma (Wandering Violent Demon). In fact, Kang Chi ended up wandering the Earth trying to find...

My Screwed Up Imagined Sequel For Gu Family Book

Image
Kang Chi's tale in the past ends in tragedy. I decided to take a look at the epilogue which takes place centuries AFTER the series ends. So I decided to create an imaginary timeline and two shows that are totally different namely Tokkei Solbrain and Akibaranger to create this rather screwed up sequel on high doses of crack. So here's how the events turn out in my headcanon which is obviously not canon and will actually contradict the events of Akibaranger and Solbrain? Unwilling to suffer any longer as he roams the Earth -- Kang Chi seeks to be reincarnated as a human at the cost of his Korean heritage. He tries to do penance, hoping to remove his demon blood and he manages to die of unknown causes. He's later reincarnated into the Masuda family where he later gets a job as a police officer. Solbrain later disbands but memories of his past life soon start to reactivate into his head. In the year 2001, Kang Chi is now a rookie police officer. In the Year 2002, he becomes...

Gu Family Book: Who's The Monster And Who's The Man?

Image
Image taken from dorama girl's world I've just finished Gu Family Book. What I could admit is that it's a pretty good story and I can't put it down. True, it's got a lot of crack but again, what do you expect when it's a fantasy-based sageuk or Korean period drama. It's not your typical historical series but it's sort of like Inuyasha but given a Korean twist. Okay, I haven't seen Inuyasha so I'll just focus on Kang Chi's character. Maybe I might make a few Super Sentai references due to similar characters such as Yamimaru from Turboranger or Eiji Takaoka from Boukenger. But I'll talk about how this TV series tries to focus on who's the monster and who's the man question with its characters. Kang Chi is born a result of a romance between a Gumiho and a human woman. This results to the birth to what some Super Sentai fans may call a Nagare Bouma. Kang Chi was to be raised among humans unaware that he's a Hanyo. It's o...

My First Impressions Of Gu Family Book's Korean Ghost Story

Image
I'm back to watching some Korean TV series. I had a huge overdose of Super Sentai, Kamen Rider and almost everything Japanese that I feel like a momentary break or taking it slow helps. While I'm still devoting myself to weekly reviews and opinions of Kyuranger in my Super Sentai blog and maybe I'll give some updates on Kamen Rider EX-AID (though I feel like a lot of cliffhangers should give me a break but I want to see more episodes come out) whenever I feel like it so here's my latest watch. I'm watching the story of Kang Chi which is also called Gu Family book. The first two episodes are devoted to the hero Choi Kang Chi's parents and not to our main hero. Yoon Seo-Wa loses her father after some lecherous lord named Jo Gwan-Woong frames her father and desires her sexually even if she's young enough to be his daughter. Gwan-Woong proves the depravity of the human heart. Not only does he frame up someone for his own benefit but he also sexually desires...
