"I Just Dropped My Smartphone" May Be An Eye Opener Psychological Thriller

Image
I decided to check out this Netflix movie which I treated like an unwrapped birthday present. The film's literal meaning is I Just Dropped My Smartphone while the international distribution title is Unlocked . I wanted to watch some legal K-Drama but with me watching some more older Tokusatsu (for now) - I felt watching this movie would be better than my planned watch of the legal comedy Love to Hate You . The source material is Japanese novelist Akira Teshigawara and a Japanese film named  Stolen Identity . A familiar face returns when Chun Wo Hee (of Argon ) returns as the main character. It was fun seeing Wo Hee and her excellent acting in Argon . Sure, I don't find her pretty but good acting matters more. Though I kinda wanted Shin Hye Sun to be the main lead even if Wo Hee still convinces me that she's in a state of dilemma. We also have Im Si Wan as "Oh Jeon Yeong" (his real identity is a mystery) and some brutal murders. A father thinks his son was committi...

"Memoir Of A Murderer" As A Father/Daughter Crime Movie

Image
I remembered watching the crime movie Night in Paradise . This one has Kim Seol Hyun who I first saw in the sci-fi crime drama Awaken . Now, it's time to see her in a realistic crime movie. It would be hard to discuss without doing some spoilers. I'll try to keep the spoilers as low as possible. This movie is pretty much a thriller. One man named  Kim Byeong So (Sol Kyung Gu) is a retired serial killer with Alzheimer's. Taking care of him is his daughter Kim Eun Hee played by Seol Hyun. This is one film where some mysteries unfold in a nearly two-hours run. Kim Nam Gil plays the seemingly innocent but murderous Tae Joo. Beong So is pretty much a serial killer and vigilante rolled into one. Nam Gil murdered his abusive father as a teenager. As time passed, Beong Soo is pretty much more concerned about punishing others who he believe should pay the price. Beong Soo's vigilante justice does come with a price. Along the way, Beong So's degenerative disease continues to ...

"Collectors" Is One Fun, Not-So-Special Adventure Film

Image
Granted, these days, I'm practically outdated with most American entertainment such as how I don't get surprised with how bad Disney is with its live-action remakes and the Star Wars Disney continuity. I still feel that Marvel under Disney ends up with mostly bad results. However, this film, Collectors , obviously borrows from popular culture material from American entertainment like Indiana Jones  (which is blatantly mentioned in the film) such as a character is called Dr. Jones (Joo Woo Jin).  Meanwhile, Kang Doo Hoo (Lee Je Hoon) seems to borrow inspiration from the Arsene Lupin series - a series that came from France, got a Japanese pseudo-sequel called Lupin III , inspired Lupinranger vs. Patranger , and probably this guy is partly inspired by the gentleman thief himself. The gentleman thief himself gets entangled with a romance (?) with the curator Yoon Se Hee (Shin Hye Sun) who is one smart lady. I'd admit I once found a girl who looks like Hye Sun pretty but later.....

Netflix Movie "Night In Paradise"

I usually don't feel like watching Korean movies but when I do - I do have weird reasons. I decided to watch this movie for a dumb reason namely the hottie Jeon Yeo Bin. The movie in itself is NOT for children or for the squeamish. The story has two people crossing paths namely Park Tae Go (Um Tae Go) and Jae Yeon (Jeon Yeo Bin) in a series of conspiracies. One is a guy who's lost his sister and niece after crossing the gangsters. Meanwhile, Jae Yeon is a terminally ill woman who lost her will to live, she also lost a lot of her loved ones then she becomes so badass later in the movie.    Now, we've got actor Cha Seung Won playing the main antagonist, Executive Ma. I do love just how Seung Won's over-the-top performance does what it does. Seung Won was a protagonist in You're All Surrounded and was seemingly antagonistic in Korean Odyssey . In here, it was fun to see him as the main antagonist and a very ruthless one at that. The guy's involvement in the chaos i...

The Charm Of Having Shin Hye Sun Playing Major Roles In K-Drama And K-Movies

Image
I admit that it took some time for me to get into K-Dramas and I haven't watched reviewed any K-Movies yet. I do think I might watch her latest project Innocence and maybe try watching The Sound of Flower and Baekdu Mountain starring the rather eccentric Suzy Bae. Now, it's time to focus on Shin Hye Sun. She does remind me of a puppy love I took too seriously and maybe why I fell for that girl who somehow resembles her. I used to find said person really pretty when she wasn't. Then I think about how Hye Sun has been called ugly. According to Soompi   - she showed her rather admirable conduct when she replied this way about people calling her "ugly": I receive a lot of comments calling me ugly or a nobody. I look up articles about me a couple times a day. I read all the comments one by one too, only because I’m curious about the stories surrounding me. However, I’m now slowly practicing not to take comments to heart. I'm just reminded of why I probably f...
