"Memoir Of A Murderer" As A Father/Daughter Crime Movie

I remembered watching the crime movie Night in Paradise. This one has Kim Seol Hyun who I first saw in the sci-fi crime drama Awaken. Now, it's time to see her in a realistic crime movie. It would be hard to discuss without doing some spoilers. I'll try to keep the spoilers as low as possible. This movie is pretty much a thriller. One man named  Kim Byeong So (Sol Kyung Gu) is a retired serial killer with Alzheimer's. Taking care of him is his daughter Kim Eun Hee played by Seol Hyun. This is one film where some mysteries unfold in a nearly two-hours run.

Kim Nam Gil plays the seemingly innocent but murderous Tae Joo. Beong So is pretty much a serial killer and vigilante rolled into one. Nam Gil murdered his abusive father as a teenager. As time passed, Beong Soo is pretty much more concerned about punishing others who he believe should pay the price. Beong Soo's vigilante justice does come with a price. Along the way, Beong So's degenerative disease continues to go worse. Beong So also has love for his daughter. Beong So's older sister is a Catholic nun who plays an important part in the story.

Eun Hee is dating Tae Joo. At first, Tae Joo seems to be just an innocent person. However, it turns out that Tae Joo is a serial murderer. This is what Beong So has been suspecting. Beong So fears that his daughter might be dating a serial killer. A bit of spoiler is that Tae Joo is a serial murderer. There are footage of women getting mutilated or tortured. Fortunately, it's not at the level of slasher films like Friday the 13th or the Japanese movie Killers.

What upset me (in part) is that Seol Hyun goes from badass chick to damsel in distress in this film. Then again an experienced serial murderer could overpower a not-so-experienced young person with a martial arts background. I felt the thrill as Tae Joo's dark secret isn't known to Eun Hee until later. Fortunately, Eun Hee does manage to survive unlike how Hisae died (off-screen) in Killers
