Why I Think Shin Hye Sun Should've Starred In More Legal K-Drama

Image
Knowing that Shin Hye Sun has been doing movies like Target (where she becomes the victim of a scam) and the legal movie Innocent - I really look back at her role in Stranger . I really must admire her versatile acting and I can't help but drop a tear after her character got killed off too soon. I really feel like the second season was boring without her incredibly intelligent character. After that, she was put into typical love stories like My Golden Life and Still 17 . She was also put into Mr. Queen which she proved herself. Overall, she's been that lady who you'd admire for her intelligence. Every interview she has shows how intelligent she really is. I watched other K-Dramas after Stranger . There were some I watched for the eye candy such as Kill It and Justice . I confess that Jin A Nana's beauty tends to overshadow her performance since she's more on the passable side. Cafe Minamdang was pretty much more light though I felt Oh Yeon Seo was "unjustly...

"Moving": An Ambitious, Convoluted Tapestry Of A K-Drama

Image
It's already known that I'm not too happy with Disney's ownership of Marvel and the Star Wars franchise. I still feel that Palpatine's (one of the franchise's most beloved evil characters) return in The Rise of Skywalker was nothing more than lame fanservice. I finally finished the Disney series (and I don't know if there's a second season) and I felt it was a very weird series. It felt like mixing X-Men with several other American materials. It's already known how ideas tend to be copied between East and West. Nothing's completely original these days and what matters more is how it's being executed.  The story of youngsters and their parents born with superpowers is interesting. However, it can be as ambitious and come out convoluted at the same time. There are many backstories that are slowly revealed along the way.  The series first reminds me of taking clear inspiration from X-Men . What happens next is that it almost reminds me of Kamen Ri...

Just Finished Watching "The Good Detective" (Updated Post)

Image
I decided to watch another crime drama (and yes, it's really there) with The Good Detective . The last time I saw a drama involving an innocent person framed up was called Innocent Defendant . I didn't enjoy it as much (at first) so I decided to go after other series like Suspicious Partner and Lawless Lawyer . I admit, I nearly dropped this but I decided to complete it for the sake of completion. The story itself involves trying to prove the innocence of Lee Dae-Chul. The case reminds me of classic cases where an innocent man gets wrongly tagged for murder (such as Paco Larranaga and Hubert Webb from the Philippines) since the person was NOT physically there during the incident. First season The cast itself has three different protagonists crucial to proving Dae Chul's innocence. Kang Do Chang (Sun Hyun Joo who I also saw in Justice ) who is a detective for 18 years who uses experience and personal collections. Meanwhile, the contrast to him is Oh Ji Hyuk (Jang Seung Joo) ...

First Impressions Of Kamen Rider GOTChard

Image
Currently, I found myself not so impressed (but still liking) Kamen Rider Geats . If one thinks about it - the Reiwa Era reboot has Kamen Rider Zero-One (signifying a restart), Kamen Rider Saber , Kamen Rider Revice , Kamen Rider Geats (which is an obvious Kamen Rider Ryuki tribute in some way), and we have the fifth installment, Kamen Rider Gotchard . The show is pretty new but I'm getting some old vibes that only soon-to-be old schooler smay get.  The three sisters of fate look rather terrifying. A mysterious man (whose name is Fuga Kudo according to the reports) and is Rinne's father. The quest to find the Chemies is because the Dark Sisters namely Lachesis, Atropos, and Clotho are up to something. I was wondering if the use of Clotho here is because it's Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers' anniversary? Clotho was an ally in Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger while Gotchard Clotho is a VILLAIN. In Greek mythology, only the Fates are more powerful than the gods and not even Zeus ...

Kamen Rider Geats: Better Ended Than Ryuki, A Watered-Down Squid Game, A Watchable Mess

Image
Kamen Rider Geats has come to an end. After some irregular watches, I've reached the end and I'm going to say it's really in the watchable mess category. Maybe, it's best to say So Bad It's Good or maybe not. Maybe, it's not that big of a mess. I think it reminds me of Kamen Rider Saber as a watchable mess. Other Toku shows by Toei that I enjoyed in spite of being messy are Kamen Rider BLACK RX (which IMHO was a Necessary Failure), B-Fighter Kabuto (which only becomes watchable because Big Bad Beetleborgs and Beetleborgs Metallix are MUCH WORSE), Kamen Rider Kiva (which is considered Toshiki Inoue's lowest point), and maybe I can also include Ressha Sentai ToQGer (which got an award on Railroad Day to help get it vindicated). I think Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters may also include the list and I hear it even got a Cult Following from some Power Rangers fans.  I watched the show thinking about two shows - Kamen Rider Ryuki and Kamen Rider Gaim . By now, readers sh...

First Impressions On Disney's ONGOING Series, "Moving"

Image
It's no secret that I do have issues with Disney right now. I don't like how Disney is handling Marvel, it's getting wokified, and the live-action remakes are usually JUST. PLAIN. SUCK. Maybe, I could still give credit to Aladdin since it was still watchable. However, I didn't like the way Beauty and the Beast live-action remake turned out to be. I think Mulan live-action remake makes Mulan too powerful. Better watch the Mulan (2009) Hong Kong movie starring Vicki Zhao instead! I also don't like Disney's version of Star Wars since I'm pretty much a fan of the Lucas Canon aka Legends. I just hate how my favorite villain Palpatine became just an act of desperation.  Then there's this series Moving . This isn't a very surprising move where KDrama meets the X-Men. Fortunately, the production doesn't make it that blatant except for the mutant powers that the cast members have. There's no Professor X counterpart in a wheelchair. There's no Jean...

Jirisan: A Strange Mix Of The Supernatural And Disaster Drama

Image
GMA-7 is getting ready to bad dub this show, right? Fortunately, I was able to watch this on Netflix. I wasn't really a fan of Jeon Ji Hyun nor did I really want to marry her back then. If there was any Korean actress I wanted to marry back when I was in college - it was Kim Tae Hee. I decided to watch this since I wanted to explore a disaster drama. What I didn't expect was to get a supernatural drama since a murder victim's ghost drops the ball. In a sense, I didn't expect a ghost to show up in the show.  From  WYNNESWORLD's blog , this is an insight that makes this mixture of supernatural and disaster drama worth the watch: Jirisan was the great because it was based on the real life experiences of the rangers. We catch a glimpse of their daily activities and their response when it comes to disasters such as landslides, storms, floods and even wildfire. We also see them dealing with the violators and the consequence that these violations have on the mountain. We s...
