The Tsai Sisters Could've Played The Late Mui Sisters In "Anita"

I wrote about how I wanted Jolin Tsai to play the late actress Anita Mui. Was it because Jolin didn't speak fluent Cantonese that she couldn't be used? I only got more familiar with Anita's music after she died. Now, I recall I heard Anita's name when she already had cervical cancer. It was in 2000 when Anita's sister Ann died. Jolin also has a sister, referred to as Jo Tsai (Tsai Minmen), who almost looks like Ann herself -- although I doubt that's her real name. A sad reality is that the circumstances of the Mui sisters and the Tsai sisters were too different.
The Anita film had one emotional scene. Ann was seen talking about her diagnosis with cervical cancer. Even worse, Anita lost contact with her nephews -- Pan Wenhao and Pan Jinhao. Both were seven and five when their mother Ann died. However, Ann's husband Pan Lide (Lap Tak Poon in Cantonese) took the children to Canada. Sadly, Anita died without being able to see her nephews. I feel like Pan Lide is a scumbag if that's the case.

Jolin and Anita both failed in their plans for marriage. Jolin had a relationship with Vivian Dawson. If I'm not wrong, Jerry Yan was also rumored to be with Jolin. Jolin was also linked with Jay Chou. Anita also dated Japanese singer Masahiko Kondo. Jolin is 44 and single. However, Jo is still married and has a son and a daughter. Jo's still alive and may still be healthy (thankfully). The Mui sisters weren't so lucky as to have lived only up to 40. Jolin gets to see her nephew and niece from time to time. However, it didn't seem that Jolin's older sister got into entertainment, like Ann. Sure, there are family problems, but Jolin's better off with her mother and sister. Jolin's parents split up some time ago, and she has two younger paternal half-brothers -- who are young enough to be her sons.
The situations may be different. The Mui sisters sang to support their highly impoverished single-parent family. The Tsai sisters weren't known to be in that same situation. But like Anita, Jolin was also discovered in a singing contest. In Jolin's case, she was more fortunate because she didn't have to drop out of school to support her family. However, the Tsai sisters have a similar bond to the Mui sisters. Jolin would still suffer if Jo suffered the same fate as Ann.
I found an interesting blog that reveals that the Mui sisters were just so unfortunate. Just reading through the blog spot, one can see the contrast between the Tsai sisters growing up and the Mui sisters. The Mui sisters weren't so fortunate. Jolin was able to go to school normally before getting discovered at the MTV Mandarin singing contest. Anita was practically self-taught due to the severe circumstances. It was good to see that the Tsai sisters didn't have to sing for pennies. Jolin was able to form a girl band -- something Anita would've never been able to do.
Could Jo pull the part of Ann when she wasn't really into show business? Maybe, maybe not. For all we know, Jo may have been encouraged by her sister to join the MTV Mandarin singing contest to fulfill her extracurricular requirements. It's possible that Jolin won against thousands of others. If that's so, then maybe Jo could've still pulled off playing Ann while Jolin plays Anita. The Tsai sisters could've taught themselves and others a deeper appreciation of family. Speaking of which, Jolin was also involved in charity work, much like Anita.
Meanwhile, it's no secret that I prefer Anita's music to Jolin's. But it was Jolin's music that got me to listen to Anita's music. Both are Asian Madonnas in their own right.
