Just Finished "Gyeongseong Creature" And Its Two Seasons (Some Spoilers)

It's October and it's time for a Halloween post. I didn't watch Gyeongseong Creature Season 1 immediately. However, I decided to watch it at my own pace and watch the second season. I've noticed that Korean shows in Netflix are somewhat following the American format. The world's a digital market now and we learn from each other. Some American shows extend with one season after the other -- depending on the popularity. The same treatment was given to several Marvel Comics and DC Comics TV adaptations. Fortunately, most K-Dramas usually end after one season and the second season usually doesn't do as well.

The two seasons are set decades apart. As warned, there are spoilers. It's a fictionalized account of Imperial Japan's takeover of South Korea (before the split) in 1945. The second season takes place in 2024 -- with a not-so-surprising twist. Strangely, neither Jang Tae-Sang (Park Seo-Jun) and Yoon Chae-Ok (Han So Hee) aged between 1945 and 2024. It turns out that the najin parasite had turned several people into monsters. This is almost like a combination of The Vampire Chronicles and other sci-fi horror movies. I'm no huge fan of American horror movies either. Did this show get inspiration from the works of Alfred Hitchcock or Neil Jordan? Hmmm... I can't be sure either!

The show has brutality that beats Kamen Rider Amazons. Provided, the show was meant for an older audience. Amazons had brutality moments but this takes the cake. The amounts of human experimentation and action can't be denied. The second season even shows people getting their brains eaten. Both protagonists must fight the urge to suck out the brains from the eyeball. The two also struggle to fit into a world that they're no longer familiar with. It makes me think that trying to molest Chae-Ok is a TERRIBLE IDEA. Chae-Ok might enjoy that pervert's brains for dinner in the second season!

This leaves some questions though as Tae-Sang and Chae-Ok get reunited. Can Chae-Ok still get pregnant after having the Najin parasite enter her when she drowned? Can Tae-Sang get anybody pregnant after that? It's not explained if they're still capable of procreation. The two aren't immortal though as they could still be harmed or even killed. However, they're living life much longer than everybody else -- alongside the villains who have the Najin parasite in them. The time jump feels completely strange. It was too daring to skip decades between seasons. What was the purpose of it?

It' gets stranger the more I watch it. The action scenes are entertaining. However, the plot can leave one confused at times. It's enjoyable and confusing at the same time!
