After watching What She Puts on the Table - I felt watching another Korean crime drama mini-series would be interesting. The series is rated M due to some questionable scenes. The series has two boxers whose loved ones are victimized by fraudulent loans. Unlike other crime drama which is more focused on investigations than revenge - this is an action-packed fisticuff drama since the protagonists are two boxers instead of two policemen. We have Woo Do Hwan as Kim Geon Woo who's a former marine. His partner is Hong Woo Jin acted by Lee Sang Yi - also a former marine. Both see the tremendous powers of how the wealthy can sometimes manipulate the law.
I'd say one of the best things, IF NOT the best thing in that show is Park Sung Woong. Yes, the main antagonist in Rugal has to be the show stealer. I really enjoy how this guy makes Kim Myeong Gil such a dangerous villain. The sly smile that Sung Woong makes while getting ready to act out a despicable deed is PRICELESS. Meong Gil is the head of Smile Corporation - a legal front for all his illegal activities. I think Sung Woong tends to make me wish the late Larry Drake was still alive. Yes, Larry the one who played Durant in the first Darkman movies. Seeing Sung Woong perform daring martial arts against younger actors makes him the show-stealer.
I say I hated Squid Game because the main characters were plain stupid. In this one, this somehow addresses the problem of getting into onerous loans. Geon Woo's mother stupidly got into a loan. It's a delight to see how Meong Gil is more than ready to mutilate anyone that he scares me. Sure, Meong Gil does have his soldiers to do his dirty bidding. The two boxers decide to track down this guy and put him to justice. However, Geon Woo has been bribing officials for protection. What I like about Bloodhounds over Squid Game is how action-oriented things are. Smile Corporation has been more focused and more dangerous than those who run the Squid Game. I'd imagine the irresponsible characters of Squid Game would've been gone by now if we were their loan shark. Maybe, that annoying irresponsible father from Squid Game would've gotten what he deserved if he borrowed money from Geon Woo.
Every episode really sets for thrills. The heroes find out the hard way that their journey isn't going to be easy. A warning is that there are also character deaths left and right Geon Woo does also show his expertise with bladed weapons. The goons are even more thorough than the faceless goons in Squid Game. The heroes even get into several life-threatening situations before the villains are inevitably defeated. That's why I'd recommend this over Squid Game which I didn't have the guts to finish.
