My Name is obviously a series NOT for children. If you have Netflix - you may notice the warning that it's definitely going to contain questionable scenes. The warning contains scenes of sex and violence are already placed for the viewer's discretion. If you're not comfortable reading this post - avert! It's amazing how Han So Hee went from her soft side in Nevertheless to becoming a violent fighter in My Name. Her character as Yoon Ji Woo (who changes her name) seeks to find her father's killer. Yeah, her father died on her 17th birthday. Not a very good day, right? So Hee shows off her moves that I felt would make you think twice before molesting her.
Towards the finale, there's that controversial bed scene. For a bit of warning - So Hee goes TOPLESS in this scene though her full breasts can't be seen. What would be interesting is that it's said So Hee was allegedly forced into the nude scene. Though, an explanation later may end up clarifying that. KPop Post does provide an explanation for the rather provocative scene. It's revealed that the pre-production stage already mentioned the bed scene. The script was incomplete. I guess this was really a lot of heated stuff going on. In short, there was consent.
South Korea does have a strict rule about nudity in K-Drama. How did So Hee show off her naked back and breasts (partially) in the process? The bed scene was there. The characters Ji Woo and Jeon Pil Do were obviously having sex. The scene was cut short. It seems that the whole production was taking a daring direction. Yup, I even wanted to imagine that Koichi Sakamoto was secretly hired to direct this action flick. The bed scene felt unnecessary since the series was a BRUISER. I felt that the production at Netflix may have wanted a more daring direction.
What could've happened in between? It's possible that experimentation was done to what they could do. Probably, Director Kim Jin Min (who was also in charge of other crime dramas and action scenes) wanted to do something. Pride and Prejudice (which had the same director) didn't have any bed scene. Like in the fashion of Lawless Lawyer - the violence was there but at a higher level. I guess they wanted to add a bed scene toward the end. Other possibilities happened. I feel like the whole bed scene was probably what came through. However, other possible deleted scenes happened.
Early on, So Hee also had a shower scene though it's typical in K-Drama. Mostly, shower scenes in KDrama don't have nudity but men tend to be quite unfortunate in that regard. It's easier to censor a naked man, right? I doubt Suzy Bae really saw Lee Seung Gi's private part in Vagabond on set. It's possible (speculative) that So Hee was supposed to be completely naked. Maybe, they did attempt to film So Hee in the shower showing off her privates. Maybe, she had an undressing scene where her full front was to be shown. I guess a lot of discomfort may have caused them to simply focus on the typical seemingly naked scene. I guess So Hee was totally too embarrassed about showing her fully nude body. I guess that may have actually caused the sex scene to be trimmed down.
ReplyDeleteI love this movie and will watch it again!
