Just Finished "You're All Surrounded"

While there are a few funny moments here and there (like the Lethal Weapon movie series) - the story does have some great, serious moments too. The whole story of a child who lost his mother (and grew up in a single home) to some political corruption, making the right decision before it's too late, and some suspicions that gave a lot of build-up to the story. The story was mostly surrounded around Eun Dae Gu and his former identity as Kim Ji Yong. There's a killer and someone behind the killer in Dae Gu's past as Ji Yong. Dae Gu suspects that Captain Seo Pan Seok had something to do with his mother's death but no surprise - he wasn't. Captain Seo is the supportive captain. There's also Chief Kang Seok Soon who has a stormy relationship with Assemblyman Yoo Moon Bae and his daughter Yoo Ae-Yon.

Like Pride and Prejudice (no, not the novel by Jane Austen) - there's the romance element with a high school friend. Soo Sun acts as the high school love interest who discovers that Dae Gu and Ji Yong are indeed the same person. It was fun to see that they weren't initially romantically interested. I love how some K-Dramas just make the love story the secondary focus. Most of the series focuses on solving the homicide that happened 11 years ago. Soo Sun as the love interest is also tied together in the same way that the love team in Pride and Prejudice were tied in. Dong Chi and Yeol Moo only had their lovey-dovey moments later. The same goes for Dae Gu and Soo Sun.

Somehow, it's become a cliche that powerful politicians are behind several crime dramas. Assemblyman Yoo himself exists as a menacing villain who pretends to be a good guy. However, Assemblyman Yoo only cares about himself and even betrays his own daughter in the process. It was something to see how this guy also had manipulated Chief Kang in many ways. Chief Kang just wants one important bill passed but makes a wrong deal. Chief Kang started off with some ulterior motives but ends up winning the hearts of the team. Chief Kang's death was expected as her crash was THAT SERIOUS. It was expected somebody would die after cutting ties with a villain. Chief Kang had good motives but ended up on the wrong side of the deal.

Choosing between this series and Pride and Prejudice is like choosing between seollongtang and gomtang - both are my favorite soups! For me, it would take some time to get which performance was better. Not to mention, I tend to make fun of the faces of Lee Seung Gi and Choi Jin Hyuk while praising their talent. It's hard to take Seung Gi and Jin Hyuk seriously at a surface level while they deliver a performance to make you forget their goofy good looks. I suggest checking out both and let yourself decide which is better.
