My Thoughts On Rugal's Finale

Rugal's finale week hits right now and there's so many plot twists and turns. From Soompi we have the cast members sharing their thoughts on Rugal as the wrapped things up. They have shared their thoughts on how fun the project was. The villain actor Park Sung Woong had so much fun in doing the cast. Actor Choi Jin Hyuk (who was also the leading guy in Justice) also had a good time. This OCN K-Drama is actually based on a Manhwa written by Rilmae (got to do research). It's almost like a bit of stuff by Frank Miller and Orion Pictures (strangely, OCN means Orion Cinema Network) as well as styles from The Matrix franchise. Okay, let's get rolling.

One of the many things that seem to be predictable on K-Drama is a web of corruption. The previous series Vagabond reveals a lot of corruption within the Blue House. There's also the plot twist that really had Edward Park who sought to avenge the crash was the one who did the crash. Okay, crazy enough? Unlike Vagabond - thankfully we didn't get a hanging finale. However, the finale feels like something that Yasuko Kobayashi and Toshiki Inoue would write when they write Tokusatsu. The whole series was focused mostly on Ki Bum's desire to end Duk Gu for ruining his life. However, there's one plot twist and the title recommends DO NOT read unless you're a spoiler addict like me

What I think was really surprising (or not) is that Chief Choi also got involved in his twisted experimentations. Chief Choi wants to get rid of Argos while probably wanting a promotion or something. It's almost like a twist done Kobayashi style. If you've watched Mirai Sentai Timeranger then notice that Captain Ryuuya has been showing signs of being psychotic when he first returned after many episodes, turned out that he allowed certain events to happen when he could've stopped them, and had his own personal agenda in mind. It seems Chief Choi just wants to have revenge against the Argos organization and took advantage of the injuries the organization did. Chief Choi did want to save Yoo Jin and reunite her with her husband. However, he allowed the members to get their injuries so he could make super soldiers. I can't blame Tae Woong's later actions to be as they are. Also, Duk Gu being the first Rugal experiment is no surprise because of his grudge towards the organization.

What I didn't like was how Chief Choi decided to literally go out with a bang - LITERALLY! Yup, Chief Choi commits suicide after a heavy confrontation with Tae Woong. I don't think Chief Choi was directly responsible for carving out the eyes of Ki Bum or murdering Tae Woong's sister. However, he becomes somewhat responsible when he chooses not to do anything about it when he could've. Meanwhile, the fight between Ki Bum and Duk Gu becomes quite like The Matrix but didn't have a satisfying end. I guess Ki Bum realizes if he commits murder then he becomes like Duk Gu. The finale is pretty much personal than the grand finale I'd have in mind. Duk Gu becomes a vegetable but later seems to hint that he may return whole. Choi Ye Won gets arrested after she attempted to take over Argos. Ye Won was guilty of murder which she tried to pin on Duk Gu. TBH, serves that gold-digging whore right!

There's a bit of an epilogue - Inoue style. Except, nobody dies senselessly like Gai Yuki did in Chojin Sentai Jetman. Tae Woong and Gwang Chul establish their trading comparing with former Argos members. Okay, just think if Kamen Rider had former members of the villain organizations reforming after jail time. Meanwhile, what Mina does isn't known but she still pays respect to the scum Chief Choi. Ki Bum holds a security agency but is dealing with rather less dangerous, regular criminals. I still wanted to laugh at how he still can't control himself in a way after dealing with small-time drug dealers. Just then, the ending tells us that the show may be over but the struggles still go on. Ki Bum's eyes (which were the focus of his powers) end up staring at the audience.

Overall, it's a good interesting series. However, not to the level of thrill factor as the more "realistic" Justice or Kill It. Still, worth a watch!
