Currently Watching Orion Cinema Network's K-Drama Series 'Rugal'

After watching Orion Cinema Network's Kill It followed by Justice - I decided to go for the sci-fi direction of the impossible. As said, these series are NOT for children and there are some bloody scenes. Thankfully, a lot of these violent and bloody scenes are toned down even for a series that's rated Mature. I mean, the Mortal Kombat video game series are rated M-17 last time I checked. Since I started watching it pretty late so please don't ask for episode reviews. What's amazing is that this is my second time getting exposed to Choi Jin Hyuk who appeared as the main character of Kill It.

Is it me or do some of the best dramas love to get corruption involved? The K-Drama series Vagabond involved government corruption with a walking spoiler. In here, the company known as Argos appears to be benevolent on the outside. However, it turns out that it has caused damage to a lot of important key persons. The leader Hwang Duk Gu is excellently played by villain actor Park Sung Woong. The members of the National Investigation Service (NIS) of South Korea has formed an organization of cyborgs known as Rugal.

Kang Ki Bum is a hotheaded police officer. His impulsiveness in dealing with Argos caused his wife's death. Worse, Duk Gu has had a habit of mutilating his opponents and leaving them alive. In the case of Ki Bum - his eyes were gouged out. Thankfully, we don't get to see it since I don't like prolonging or closing up torture scenes. So the levels of violence are tolerable like Darkman unlike those where such scenes are shown to make you puke. Him losing his eyes and making him watch his honeymoon video is sick. The sadism of the Argos organization really knows no bounds.

The members of Argos are all cyborgs. Those with Ki Bum are Mina who has a brain chip implant because she was paralyzed, Han Tae Wong with a bionic arm, and Lee Gwang Chul who has a bionic gut. I don't know what torture they underwent. Thankfully, most of them happen off-screen. They all have traumas to face. The wicked voice of Duk Gu still rings in Mina's head. Mina is also the former partner of Ki Bum. These guys do display a lot of stunts in their fighting. Ki Bum gets bionic eyes to replace his already gauged out eyes. Ki Bum is obsessed with revenge for his wife's death and for his mutilation. Ki Bum must learn there's more to stopping Argos than his personal vendetta as an antihero.

So far, the series would probably get me engaged. It would be 16 episodes (and it's still ONGOING) though so I might binge-watch something else too. Then again when I binge watch - please don't expect episode reviews!
