Is it me or do episodes in Kamen Rider Zi-O written by Kento Shimoyama tend to be hit or miss? I admit, I prefer the episodes written by Nobuhiro Mouri than Shimoyama as of late. Then I thought about the W reference (and even using the W power here). But in this case -- I thought the father/son misunderstanding does add some drama though I wouldn't call it as good as the way Hirohisa Soda, Toshiki Inoue, Junki Takegami and Yasuko Kobayashi would pull it off.
Now what's the situation? You've got the father/son situation in the Year 2040 A.D. as a result of a diverging timeline. Aura shows she may be a pretty face but beware of how people look like -- she turns both father and son against each other even more. There was already a conflict before that which has Mondo Douan (Quiz) and Tamotsu Douan (Another Quiz) because of family issues.
The conflict is pretty much typical in TV drama. Tamotsu was so obsessed with work that it seemed like he abandoned his wife and child. Tamotsu's off-screen wife dies and this leads to Mondo holding a grudge in their timeline. How Quiz arrived into the current timeline is because of White Woz who is more than determined to stop the Day of Demon King Zi-O. I don't blame White Woz for wanting the future he guarantees though I have a feeling that the reason why it happens is going to be so WTF when it comes out. White Woz would later knock Another Quiz out and change history for the better.
I also thought about the whole problem of the now diverging timeline. It's probably Shimoyama trying to add complexities but failing at it. Do you remember Nekomata in Ninninger's eight episode? I think Shimoyama is probably trying to improve on it. Right now, I just think about how Yasuko Kobayashi did somehow mess it up (in a way) with Kamen Rider Den-O's time traveling plots such as meeting your niece from the future.
As of recent, we've got the Kamen Rider Ryuki arc coming up. Unlike Kamen Rider Decade -- we've got Shinji's actor really returning 17 years after Ryuki aired! I'll give my thoughts on the Ryuki arc once it's done - assuming I'm not going to get entangled with other stuff!

Hello. I have to admit, Shimoyama's return as the main writer is somewhat of a mixed reception.
ReplyDeletewhile White Wiz intro is much new, along with the concept of sudden emergence of future timelines previously nonexistent, the way he brought the first future rider is disappointing, as Shinobi is treated like a filler character as Rentaro's rider form appeared only in a dream sequence and a flashback scene.
As for the Quiz arc:
This arc somewhat redeemed itself as it introduced Quiz, and his screen time makes up for it as he appeared to be unaffected by his kaijin counterpart's presence.
Kamen Rider Wizard seems to act as an anti-villain than an anti-hero, as his callous behavior seemed to benefit either sides.
In the end Woz stole Quizs power yet he seemingly escorts Mondo back to his time, and while Mongolian seemingly became powerless he somewhat retaining his memories.
The father and son conflict somewhat brings in to mind similar themes from past series (kabuto, kiva, drive, ghost, ex-aid and build), this one is somewhat of a good drama with a seemingly good ending to a conflict.
While Kikai would appear soon, it is likely that he will be another one-shot guest characters,
Which brings in to mind other characters whose rider forms lasts only a brief moment, which includes:
- Abyss and Amaki (Decade)
- Birth Prototype (OOO)
- Blue and Green Mage (Wizard)
- Jam (Gaim)
- Jun (Drive)
- Dark Necrom-P (Ghost)
In regards to the Ryuki arc, will try to download the episode and see, though it's likely that Takamasa Suga will only reprise his characters alter ego and not assume his ryuki form.

DeleteHello and thanks for giving yet another feedback!
Shimoyama's return. I do agree that he's somewhat mixed. The way Ninninger turned out made me dislike how the guy carries out his writing. But so far, I still feel he's got some improvement.
Anyway, I do hope you can help me improve my posts overtime.
You're doing fine. Post the tribute/story arc after watching the 2nd part of that pertaining arc. No need to rush.
DeleteI expect that the Ryuki arc would end in a mixed reception given that there are no online pics of Takamasa Suga transforming onscreen...
