A Rather Convoluted Case Of Kuroto Dan Becoming Another OOO

Well it's a convoluted case of Kamen Rider OOO getting into a crossover with Kamen Rider EX-AID because the year 2010 and year 2016 -- six years apart! This was yet another diverse plan that could seriously wreck the timeline of Kamen Rider Zi-O for sure -- that is by turning one of the many evil Kamen Riders into yet another evil Kamen Rider. In this case, Kuroto Dan returns with still the same psychotic tendencies as Another OOO. Hmmm... it's a good thing (for now) that the Time Jackers didn't decide to give the powers to Takeshi Asakura of Kamen Rider Ryuki!

I admit, I'm quite a fan of Kamen Rider OOO myself and somehow I'm defensive about the show being "good" from others who think it's bad. It was nice to see both Eiji Hino and Hina Izumi appear in the flesh. So I guess actors Shu Watanabe and Riho Takada haven't hit it all big compared to what happened to Sota Fukushi and Bleach. I mean, check out the 0.5 episode after the end of the Fourze arc -- they referenced it that they will watch Bleach because of Fukushi!

So what's the point in choosing Kuroto to be the Another OOO? It's probably one thing that maybe, just maybe fans overlooked the fact that the original Kamen Rider OOO from centuries before Eiji became the current one was actually a villain. It was the original Kamen Rider OOO that started the birth of the Greeeds while the current one ended them. I guess this was the Time Jackers' logic that they could use Kuroto to fulfill the first OOO's wishes as he's a man with a serious god complex. According to the Kamen Rider OOO novel written by Nobuhiro Mouri (the writer of the two-part OOO arc) -- the original Kamen Rider OOO wanted to achieve godhood. The original OOO was a far cry from what Eiji was -- a selfless man who only wanted to protect the happiness of others!

I did find quite something amusing and creepy about how the altered time works. Kuroto is now even more insane than he was -- he even attempts to hit on Hina nearing the end of the first part. The rather naive Sougo tries to work with Kuroto on how to become a better overlord -- an attempt to avoid the future where he becomes the unstoppable tyrant that will be known as Demon King Zi-O. However, he gets more than what he bargains for because well -- Kuroto in this altered timeline murdered his own father Masamune who was destined to be Kamen Rider Chronos. Eiji because he never became Kamen Rider OOO became part of the Japanese Diet and seeks to overthrow the false king and restore Japan from the madness!

I do like every time there's bits and pieces of life lessons in this one. The whole conversation between both Sougo and Eiji is very much enlightening on that a true leader doesn't do everything himself or how a god complex can ruin just anyone. What's also interesting is that the lesson is taught with the combo that comes with the new Bandai merchandise. Aura shows that roses do have thorns when she pilots her own CGI mecha. Fortunately, Kamen Rider Zi-O using the Time Mazine robot uses the power of the three animals of OOO -- grasshopper, hawk and tiger combination! They serve to help both with the impressive CGI battle. Also, it does free Japan from the attempted usurpation by finishing the job back in the past to correct the present.

Now, I was thinking about the involvement of Mouri with Super Sentai and Kamen Rider. He was involved as a secondary writer for Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters (which Yasuko Kobayashi was its head writer), Shuriken Sentai Ninninger (so this his Mouri's second round in working with Kento Shimoyama) and the head writer of Ucchu Sentai Kyuranger. For Kamen Rider, he was also a secondary writer for Kamen Rider OOO (so I guess Yasuko Kobayashi is probably busy with something else), Kamen Rider Gaim, wrote the finale of Kamen Rider Drive and the sixth episode of Kamen Rider Ghost. Also, Mouri from what I heard will be involved with next week's Kamen Rider Gaim. So did Toei fail to contact Gen Urobuchi? Can't really tell if you ask me!

  1. While I initially had reservations about bringing Kuroto in this arc (since I prefer him being in Ex-Aid than in O's, due to him being irrelevant in O's plot, but after reading this post, I suppose it may be well-placed due to Genmu's desire to ascend to a higher power (godhood, kinghood).
While it's good to see Eiji again, I was disappointed that he remained untransformed throughout episode 10 (save for the brief scene where he de-transform upon Kaijin O's spawning). I really want to see him as O's for a brief moment before losing his powers.
At least he did not lose some of his memories like Taking Inui.
I find Mouri as a writer better than Kento, so I'm fine with it.
another drawback is the non-appearance of other support characters from O's (Date, Gotoh and even Kougami himself).
Quite happy to see Kazuraba in the flesh, so the next tribute arc might be fun to watch, but I expect that he would lose his GODHOOD (the status as the MAN OF THE TOMORROW) due to time being altered. Hope that at leas one of them assumed rider form for a brief moment (Baron).

    1. Hi Roy Miguel and thanks for dropping by to share your thoughts.

I was wondering ever heard of the OOO novel where the orgiinal OOO was one who tried to ascend into godhood? I haven't read it either TBH.

As for Eiji and Hina -- it's nice to see them again. Yes, I can share your disappointment too.

I agree, Mouri is better than Shimoyama. I really had problems with Shimoyama back in Ninninger but I'm somehow able to embrace him here in Zi-O. It's probably just a bias because I tend to prefer new school Kamen Rider over new school Super Sentai -- even if I can still enjoy them both!

Next two weeks, I'd be somewhat getting ready for another fruit post. I may consider going on eating loads of fruits until then!

So anyway, feel anything I can do to help improve my Zi-O related posts?

    2. For now, everything is fine. Posting your episode review after part 2 of each arc is okay.
I apologize if I did not post my thoughts about the. 05 episodes. With only 10 minutes, and the plot is not related to the main story, I opted not to watch it.
Other than that, just do your thing.
Too bad we'll have to wait till June 2019 for the English sub of Heisei Generations Forever...

    3. Thanks for giving your feedback. TBH doing a review after every arc has been helping me better than doing it weekly. Reviewing the current Super Sentai episodes is easier IMHO.
