Are Problematic, Villainous Fathers A New Trend In Post-Decade Kamen Rider?

Hmmm I just didn't notice it but we've got a couple of problematic fathers in Kamen Rider, don't we? Although we don't see them too often but I've noticed that it started with Kamen Rider W -- to put a problematic father who's at odds with at least one of the protagonists who is their offspring. It's not a new trope and it's seen in various works of fiction (such as having Darth Vader for your father) or in real life when parents fail to do their own duties towards their children.

Kamen Rider W has Ryubee Sonozaki. He's the father of Philip. He appears as a caring man but he's also at odds with Philip -- because his son is the other half of the Kamen Rider W combination. His actions caused his own wife to turn against him and seek to destroy him. In the end, he started to regret his own actions as he was finally defeated.

Kamen Rider Wizard has Sou Fueki as a caring father but an irrational decision maker. He appears as this White Wizard who was eventually betrayed by the Goblin. His daughter Koyomi had an incurable disease. Koyomi has become a literal walking dead. He would do anything -- even put everyone in danger to get his daughter back. Hmmm... doesn't that remind you of Kamen Rider Ryuki's Rider War where all Shiro Kanzaki wanted was for his sister Yui to live beyond her upcoming birthday that year?

Kamen Rider Drive's Banno Tenjuro is well one ill father -- not the kind you'd want for a dad. He ended up betraying his own children Kiriko and Gou for his own profit. He neglected and left them, he becomes back only to become the final antagonist of Kamen Rider Drive. I don't blame Gou having to smash his own father -- I mean you've got to choose between the fate of humanity and your villainous father whose hurting it, right?

Kamen Rider Ghost's Adonis ended up dividing the family with his ambition to create a world without death. This put the situation where his sons Alain and Adel ended up getting divided. His aims ended up dividing the family as he began to neglect them. However, he was simply having noble goals in his place.

After that, we have Masamune Dan who is one horrible father -- which may explain why Kuroto Dan went insane. He appears to be even more psychotic than his own son. He went as far as to really manipulate Hiiro Kagami one way or another. If Kuroto hates his father then I don't blame him. Having that kind of a father must really suck, right?

So the next dilemma is that Shinobi Katsuragi is now working for Evolt's final cause. Sento's or Takumi's latest dilemma is that his own father is with the bad guys. I just can't wait to see how it'll turn out -- especially that it's already July and the last Sunday of August will be the day when Kamen Rider Build officially ends.
