My Thoughts On The "While You Were Sleeping" Finale

Images taken from Drama Beans

Yes it's the finale and I was prepared for a bad ending. I still couldn't forget I wanted to smash my LCD screen with my hand when I saw Suzy Bae's character die in Gu Family Book. The scene of Hong Joo in the hospital had me already scared since my first Korean TV series to watch was Autumn in My Heart which I may consider rewatching anytime soon. Anyway, here's how the finale goes and I'm pretty mixed about it.

The trial really has Woo Tak testifying which further helps create the lead to condemn Yo-BUMMER as a dirty lawyer. This is also where it's revealed by Chief Choi that Yo-BUMMER is planning to flee South Korea soon. I'd assume that maybe, just maybe Yo-BUMMER is planning to flee to North Korea. Anyway, things get pretty intense here.

Yup, I can feel through Hong Joo's tears. This scene really made me wish I was there to comfort her or the ghosts of the Akibarangers (which is JUST impossible) would sympathize over her. Anyway, this is where things get really bad before we get a good ending.

Yo-BUMMER kills Chief Choi in a "car accident". I really found this scene to be very discouraging. The end credits did feature the cast posting after the scene and I'm glad they did their parts really well. Yo-BUMMER crosses the line which cements his fate at the end of the finale.

Yes, real men do cry and we see Jae Chan cry near the girl he loves. I really think this is one of the best scenes in a Koreanovela. I really, REALLY love the emotions felt in here. This is a real emotional breakdown especially you've lost a close friend.

Yo-BUMMER finally gets arrested for his manipulation. He only wants fame and fortune. Now he's infamous and he's lost his fortune. I love how the villain maintains his air of arrogance, trying to grab whatever power he has proving he won't be so easy to take down. Jae Chan reveals that Yo-BUMMER's being a dirty lawyer and not his mistakes led him to be in jail. Personally, sending Yo-BUMMER to jail for life might be the best punishment for him. He'll have until the day he dies to think about what he did though I'd rather see him shot by firing squad. Maybe, it would have been better if there was a police chase and he got shot and fell down to a bloody death. Okay, I'm being sadistic at this point. Lee Sang Yeob is such a good actor it's almost impossible not to like the villain's plot development.

Prosectur Sohn gets married and not so many figure out that Dexter Boy Genius is her on. I didn't find this wedding scene to be intriguing since I wanted it to be Jae Chan's and Hong Joo's wedding. Yes, you know what I mean. Also, Soo Yoon makes a short appearance after the actress supposedly received her flowers. So why did the actress Kim So Hyun show up? I guess she wanted to make a short cameo or was willing to do it.

We see a scene of Jae Chan and Hong Joo at the wedding. They do get married off-screen and we see the finale. I really think the finale got weak in this area.

We see them as husband and wife. I'd be lying if I won't say I'm jealous of Jae Chan in this scene to have Hong Joo. They recall their past experiences and how they landed on each other. I think the finale is pretty weak since I was expecting a police chase or maybe how Yo-BUMMER would meet his end. I mean, where's the epic action finale? Wait, I could be rewatching too many Tokusatsu shows while writing this review? Dunno but I really feel mixed.
