From UkiyaSeed, here's the news:
The official TV-Asahi Kamen Rider Ex-Aid website has unveiled the staff for the upcoming series that celebrates the franchise's 45th anniversary.
The series will be produced by Toei's Takahito Ohmori (Kamen Rider Drive, Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger) and TV-Asahi's Sasaki Motoi, who will also serve as the show's chief producer. Writing the series is Yuya Takahashi (Eight Ranger, Lupin III Part 4), making this his first major tokusatsu project. Takahashi previously wrote Kamen Rider Drive's Type Tokujo specials. Finally, serving as the series' head director is Shojiro Nakazawa(Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger, Kamen Rider Wizard).
The series, which is described as a "Battle game with twists happening in the real world" and will revolve around a Rider who fights video game viruses called "Bugstars" that manifest themselves in the real world. Lastly, the show will go all out with its video game theme as it will feature video game elements such as damage and attack meters.
Kamen Rider Ex-Aid is set for an October 2 premiere. But before that, Ex-Aid will make his feature film debut in the Kamen Rider Ghost the Movie: The 100 Eyecons and Ghost’s Fateful Moment, which will premiere on August 6th.
So what do I think of the crew to run the show? While Takahito Ohmori was responsible for one show I thought really didn't click with me namely Kyoryuger but he's also responsible for Kamen Rider Drive. We have a new head writer Yuya Takahashi who's now going to give it a shot with Tokusatsu. I felt like a lot of writers have been overworked like both Toshiki Inoue and Yasuko Kobayashi need a long break. With Shojiro Nakazawa, well I guess having his expedrience with Gokaiger can be a plus.
As for the plot, I'm thinking we're taking Megaranger or the Tsubaraya-owned series Gridman to another level. The idea that Kamen Rider EX-AID will fight the video game viruses called the Bugstars is an interesting idea. I feel like we need another creative concept going on. While the suit itself looks funny but Kamen Rider's maintained a cartoony theme ever since Kamen Rider Den-O and Kamen Rider Ghost isn't even a serious series. So I don't see any reason why Kamen Rider EX-AID having a comedic design wouldn't work. While it didn't work with Metal Hero but having cartoony themes did work with Super Sentai and Kamen Rider.
When it comes to the writers, I wished it could have been Naruhisa Arakawa or Gen Urobochi. But let's see what Yuya Takahashi has to give us.
ReplyDeleteAs for fighting video game viruses, it reminded me of Megaman Battle Network and Star Force.
