Just Finished "My Glamorous Imperial Concubine" (Some Spoilers)

This is another Wuxia series finished. I was having some expectations broken. The show can be full of spoilers when discussed even further. In fact, some characters are walking spoilers. If you're not ready to be spoiled - DON'T READ. If not, you can read further. I feel the show had some plot twists and turns. Besides, maybe some of the villains in this show weren't as evil as you think.

Emperor Liancheng is an antagonist but dies before the show can end. Liancheng may have some idiotic obsession with Ma Fuya. It becomes even worse when Liancheng's younger sister Liansi and his younger brother Lianxi get involved. Liansi develops a crush on Meng Qiyou and even gets pregnant in the process. It seems that Ma Fuya was pregnant with Liancheng's baby but ends up in Qiyou's household after Liancheng dies. Liancheng dies doing a selfless act to save Ma Fuya. The obsessive empress Ma Xiangyun commits suicide to kill Emperor Liancheng. Emperor Liancheng's quite a bad guy but I could sympathize with him. At least, Liancheng had genuine affection for Ma Fuya and even prevented certain bad deeds. I felt Liancheng was a sympathetic character. I wish I could've killed that bitch empress Xiangyun. Maybe, just maybe, it would've been a good decision for both Northern Han and Shu if Qiyou took Liansi as his empress.

Sometimes, it just shows your worst enemies can be your family. Ma Duyun, Ma Fuya's younger brother turns out to be the FINAL ENEMY. Ma Duyun is so engrossed with revenge and restoring Chu that he lost his honor. Ma Duyun does despicable things such as orchestrating the death of HIS OWN MOTHER, HIS OWN NEPHEW (presumably because Liancheng was the biological father), and even killing Qiyou's heir by Liansi. I didn't like how Liansi was frequently antagonizing Ma Fuya but it was easy to sympathize with her predicament. Liancheng taking Fuya as another wife was easy to sympathize with because he was forced to marry a woman he never loved. Fuya was once Liancheng's love but you know how ancient feudal societies are. Duyun does so many despicable acts that sympathy for him goes down the drain. Sure, Duyun is a victim but his acts end up the worse. Duyun plays the victim card to justify his own actions. Duyun causes the death of several people in the Northern Han including its emperor.

Fuya ends up in a difficult decision after Chu is restored. Fuya ends up having to get rid of her own uncle who caused the mess in the first place. Fuya feels no joy in becoming royalty again. It's because her brother had become a monster too. Her family had become her own worst enemy. I don't blame Fuya for committing fratricide. Chu can't be ruled by such a horrible person. I love how Fuya even talks about Du Yun going to Hell with company. It's so dark to see how Du Yun tries to hold on to life and power before his dark soul descends into Hell off-screen. Though, Fuya ends up in a bittersweet scenario recalling much of her life. Fuya doesn't take pleasure in it. However, she had to get rid of her own brother to save more people from dying because of that genocidal maniac.

  1. Fuya was never pregnant with Lianchang's baby that was a lie spread by Liansi the baby's father was always Qiyou
